STARTING OUT

Kamelot was formed in 1991 by Thomas Youngblood and Richard Wagner in Tampa, Florida, USA. After two albums, Norwegian vocalist Roy Khan joined for the album Siege Perilous and from there Kamelot went from strength to strength. Between 1998 and 2010, Kamelot released seven highly acclaimed albums in Siege Perilous, The Fourth Legacy, Karma, Epic, The Black Halo, Ghost Opera and Poetry For The Poisoned.

It was on their concept album Epica and the follow up The Black Halo, that Kamelot truly came into their own, releasing a series of superb songs that narrated the struggles that a young man goes through, all because of the hubris of God and his archangels. A concept which led to a new generation of power metal bands such as Epica-yes they took their name from the album- to form and build on the work that Kamelot had started.

On Poetry For The Poisoned, Kamelot began exploring a heavier and darker side, something which drew in a new crop of fans, but perhaps led to the burnout of singer Roy Khan, who after finishing the tour for Poisoned, eventually announced his departure from Kamelot.

After a brief period where Kamelot tried out various singers, they settled on Tommy Karevik, a man who had come to prominence for his work in Seventh Wonder. Karevik’s vocals impressed Kamelot’s legions of fans on his first album Silverthorn, before he truly came into his own on the follow ups Haven and The Shadow Theory.

And it’s not just in the studio that Kamelot are at the forefront. Their live performances are highly energised and are famous for reproducing the songs from their albums with near flawless perfection.
