Unleash The Archers, the Canadian Power Metal sensations return with a brand new album entitled Abyss and boy is it a good one.
“Waking Dream,” starts things off. It is at once thoughtful, haunting and epic. The perfect way to kick things off.
“Abyss,” the title track of the album is electric. The riffs and the synth work together to create something that spins in and out of the tide of time. The vocals hit with something new, and the impact of the song is perfectly encapsulated.
“Through Stars,” slows things down ever so slightly, twisting into shape and producing a song that reaches a whole new level of epicness.
“Legacy,” shimmers on the border line between insanity and thoughtfulness. It starts slowly but gradually picks up pace, allowing the vocals to truly shine through and deliver and epic hand off.
“Return To Me,” shivers and slivers around the line of time. The song’s heaviness doesn’t take anything away from the melody imbued deep within, indeed it enhances it.
“Soulbound,” is a riffer of a song. It verges from insanity to well informed chaos and then pushes further even more.
“Faster Than Light,” is a guitarist’s paradise. Those neo-classical riffs and interludes are to die for, and the vocals shine through. Everything kicks into gear.
“The Wind That Shapes The Land,” is epic, as you would expect it to be. It combines all previous elements into something downright terrifying in its grandeur and prospectus.
“Carry The Flame,” goes for the driving rhythm and the pulsating crossroads of time and space. Delivering a slow moving gait of a song that captures everything.
“Afterlife,” is the epic conclusion to all of this. A song that mixes together bombastic riffs with subtle melodical textures, all the while hinting at something more around the corner. That something more is revealed in grand time as an explosion of the senses.
If you’re into metal at all, be sure to get this album when it is released on 21st August via Napalm Records.
