MULTI GENERATION

What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?

Hi, we are Ugly Clinic. A multi-generational Punk/Rock band from the North East of Scotland. As we are a band made up of a range of ages, our individual influences are different. They range from The Clash, Buzzcocks to AC/DC, Slipknot and Motorhead. We blend them all together to create music that we all feel we have individually contributed to creatively.

How do you approach songwriting and are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start out?

So far when it comes to our song writing, we tend to write individually and then take what we come up with into our rehearsals. If we all agree that the song is worth working on, we get to work with it, again, putting our own influences into the song and work on it till we have a finished product that we are all happy with.

There’s never any real theme to begin with, although you can usually tell who’s written the song based on the sound that’s first brought to the table. We have our different influences so those influences shine more in some songs than others. That’s the beauty with Punk music though. It comes with a freedom to play anything.

MEANING

Why do you write the music that you do?

Punk/Rock music is as deep and as accepting as you want it to be. We write songs that have meaning to us, but to another listener, it might mean something else. Our shitty day is someone else’s shitty day. Punk/Rock music is a great way to express that feelings and turn them from what could be something bad into something great. No matter how you’re feeling, there’s a song in the Punk/Rock genre that’s gonna connect with you in that moment.

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

We’re a very simple band. There’s not much effects or add on’s in our music. We’re a pure raw, plug in and play band so all of the songs we write are the same live as they are when we practice them. Just a lot louder and with a lot more energy pumped in. When it comes to choosing what songs to play though, that’s a lot harder. We would love to play them all if we could but usually time doesn’t allow for it. If we can’t do them all then we let our singer Chloe decide our setlist for the shows. But it doesn’t really matter what we play, we give it our all everytime for every song.

WHAT WORKS

TOUR

What plans do you have for the future?

Well once this virus that’s shut down the world does one, we wanna get back out there gigging. We had 3 gigs that had to be cancelled/postponed due to it and we’re missing playing in front of our fans! As well as that though, we’ve just finished recording our debut album, so we plan on releasing that out to the world in due course and then it’s gonna be back into the studio to record album no.2 as we have already started working on it. Watch this space!
