What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

We play opera arias and classical music by classical composers such as Mozart, Schubert, Vivaldi, etc. Classic songs from the saloons of the 19th century are sometimes called Lieder and when we play them in the set of a rock band, it also becomes distorted. It doesn’t get more imaginative than that…
Our inspiratons are the composers we play and also metal/rock crossover. Queen, Therion, Tarja Turunen and more

How do you approach songwriting?

We mostly arrange old classical music. Sometimes we put different parts together and sometimes we play as they were originally written, but we always have to scale down the harmonies to chords that can be held for a longer time and arrange, instrument. It’s very time consuming but feels meaningful somehow. We also have an instrumental own song on the album that will be released this fall. It is called Intermezzo and is like a break in the middle of the record.

Why?

I have been working on this album together with Swedish and Italian musicians since the day I dropped out of the Academy of Opera. I had a year left and was supposed to take a year off, but I never came back. Instead, I started freelancing in the most diverse genres, music styles and venues.

After revising the album several times, we finally released our first single in January 2023. The album will be released on the Italian label Shunu Records to which I sent a demo at an early stage. After that, they have been a huge part of the process of developing the sound and arrangements of the songs.

How do you decide what to play live?

There’s no song that’s so fun to play that it’s fun if it’s in the wrong mood and crowd. We are currently thinking about how to play Lieder Distortion live. I sometimes throw in a Lieder Distortion song when I’m out playing as a freelance musician, but it has to be the right time…

What plans do you have for the future?

We will release four singles, the third will come at the end of May and after four singles the album will come. It will be sometime this fall. Our latest single Ave Maria was released at the end of March.
