What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?
The name came about by accident actually. We were looking for one back in the early days and were messing about. Over a couple of beers, our then drummer Gene mentioned the name and we thought it would be good. The name also drives the way we write our music and define the themes behind each album
How do you approach songwriting?
Generally it’s the usual “I have this riff or beat” approach, but as we start building the music up, the themes start falling into place. The exception is with I, Human – our last record. Ryan had this idea to take Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot nook, and turn that into a story line. The difference is we took the idea of being the clone and looking through their eyes. The idea took off well. The current album ||| – is not truly thematic, but we still play on the current issues such as suicide, paedophilia and the current state of the world.

How do you decide what songs to perform live?
We stick with the stuff the crowd likes. Right now we are doing the entire album for ||| and a couple of songs of I, Human and The War Inside. Our next few shows should be interesting as we dig up stuff from 2006.
