Conception, a band who’ve got a mythos about them due to their founding and history, return with a brand new album entitled State of Deception.

“In Deception,” rings the bells of time, slowly filtering into being and creating the image that Conception are running through for their new album.

“Of Raven and Pigs,” is an interesting starter. A song that starts off the back of a solidly industrial riff, before giving way to Roy Khan’s impeccable vocals, it mixes so many differing elements together that the listener is left sated and demanding more. A song that explodes together to set the statement of purpose for Conception.

“Waywardly Broken,” shimmers on the horizon. A song that creeps along at a deadly pace, ensuring the listener is left contemplative and demanding a conclusion.

“No Rewind,” is a smattering of chaos. A song that wheels together like the snake in Eden. Roy Khan is fantastic in creating the image of madness and destruction that the song title evokes. Conception are in full form here.

“The Mansion,” slows things down and allows the listener to truly enjoy Roy Khan’s vocals. The man holds nothing back and the song is all the better for it.

“By The Blues,” takes another interesting turn. Starting off with at thunderous riff before slowly shifting into a whirlpool of sensation and emotion. The guitars lead the charge and allow the vocals to take on the roll of the centre, demolishing all restrictions completely.

“Anybody Out There?” has an interesting component, a slow shift and turn that steadily brings about an increase in the feeling of Conception exploring a darker element within their music. Khan’s vocals are haunting, and in some respects downright terrifying. A bonechilling song to the core.

“She Dragoon,” snaps and crackles with energy. The guitars work together to mould a passionate riff based song whilst the vocals weave together a tale of confusion and contradiction. Brilliant from Conception.

“Feather Moves,” the finale on this record, is a song that grooves and chimes together with what has gone before whilst adding a new dimension to several distinct possibilities.
