Cirith Ungol. The name sparks fervid imaginations of a scene from Lord of the Rings and bone crunching heavy metal. The band who developed a cult following during the 70s and 80s are back with a brand new album entitled Forever Black which is bound to capture the imagination once more.

“The Call,” is thunderous. A sign of the darkness and of the reemergence of something long thought dead and gone. It is the rise of Cirith Ungol, come back to bring metal to the masses.

“Legions Arise,” the first single from Cirith Ungol is fast and furious. A song that captures everything that this band stands for. Fast and furious, a snarling battle call to summon their fans to form the roaring apocalypse once more.

“The Frost Monstreme,” is a battering ram to the listener’s gut. Everything about the song screams pure heaviness. Cirith Ungol venture into the soulstream once more, and they produce an absolute masterpiece of a song. One that is caked in heaviness and power.

“The Fire Divine,” is a groover. One that ventures forward and twists the screws. Cirith Ungol embrace classic Seventies metal right here, with a furious swaggering guitar riff and a vocal line that would scare Lemmy Kilmister.

“Stormbringer,” slows things down slightly. A song that merges different elements of the band’s palette together to ensure that the listener is intrigued throughout. There’s soulful leads, thoughtful rhythms and a soaring vocal line that brings the hairs of the listener’s arm to stand on edge.

“Fractus Promissum,” weaves together through the night sky, slowly shifting the turnover and bringing about an interesting kaleidoscope of emotions and feelings. It is a song that ventures through the turnstile of emotions and delivers a roaring sonnet.

“Nightmare,” is heavier than Black Sabbath whilst capturing their spirit perfectly, a thunderous opus that does Cirith Ungol proud.

“Before Tomorrow,” snakes along the precipous, a song that delivers a fascinating one-two on the count and ensures the listener is hooked forevermore. A fascinating song and a fitting one for the band.

“Forever Black,” the title track is a riff monster. It closes out the album with a blistering display of aggression and progression into a monstrous descent.
