It’s rare that a band spend the time and effort to dedicate a piece of work to a cause, and yet Black Rain have dedicated their new record Weight Of Shadows to Mental Health Awareness Week, and the album truly fits the theme.
“Ein Sturm Zieht Auf,” slowly brings things in. Taking a turn here and there, slowly shifting through the wind works, ensuring that the listener is hooked from the offset. “Still Spark Something,” starts with a nice little flickering riff, bringing the one two down quite solidly. “No Rest,” featuring Tony Dolan, is an absolutely monster of a song. Big pounding riffs, and a creaking stormcase shifts this way and that, bringing the listener to some form of masterclass.
“Through The Storm,” shifts and twists. The riffs play a guiding role in shaping the movements of the listener and ensure that they are hooked on the melodies and the heavy lines. “Force Of Habit,” takes a turn here, changing from the standard get go, pounding the listener’s ears with heaviness and groove. “Weight Of Shadows,” the heaviness is mixed together with some classic eighties groove, a fitting end.
The record is out via W.A.R. Productions.
