An interview with WinterBeach

An interview with WinterBeach

What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?

Baz: “WinterBeach was simply the coolest name of the 1077 names we had on the block ?
My personal sources of inspiration are A-ha, Kiss, Metallica and Genesis.”
Tiam: “We also tried to find a name that kind of describe how our music sounds. In other words, we sound like a beach that you really don’t want to swim on, at least not for long!”

Angel: “The three band members have very different musical influences, so it’s almost impossible for us to make the right influences for the band. But it’s no secret that we all like synth pop from the 80’ies”

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

Baz: “Working around a sketch, recording and working towards a raw mix we are happy with. Then we take our stuff to our producer who makes the final mix. Our Scottish friend, Mal McNaughton, is always involved when writing lyrics.”

Tiam: “I believe we could write about almost anything. But it’s always important that the lyrics fit the sound of the song. And as a natural consequence of us constantly being fascinated by minor chords, the themes are mostly dark, but always with some light and hope just around the corner ?

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

Baz: “We always try to make music where we get to use our creativity ?
Angel: “After countless years of trial and error, we have now finally arrived at a musical expression that is 100% true. Once our sound was found, new song sketches automatically appear that all match each other in one way or another”

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

Baz: “Starts and ends with a bang. Every single concert should be an experience that will never be forgotten.”
Tiam: “As a matter of fact, WinterBeach has hardly played any gigs yet, as we’ve mostly been concentrating on studio work. But now we can’t wait to get on the road. When I make set-lists I always think of the total impression. It has to sound like a record. An opener with a long intro which finally explodes into a great pop-song. And its important with a lot of upbeat songs when playing live, and maybe one or two slower tracks, before ending the show with a great hit song, of course”

What plans do you have for the future?

Baz: “Looking forward to playing concerts again when the pandemic is over and making new songs.”
Angel: “When we have finished promoting this album, we start writing new songs, which I’m really looking forward to”

Tiam: “Yes! Or simply: In the future we just want to make better songs and better shows!”
