What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

I was a big Radiohead fan when I started this project. I still am. At one point, someone I worked with mentioned how they still listened to ABC talk radio on the way to work and I thought it would be funny if someone was referring to a band every time they said “talk radio”. I decided to make it one word, to mimic “Radiohead”.

My biggest influences come from 90’s grunge and alternative rock groups. From a vocal perspective, it’s Chris Cornell. I’ve been listening to everything he has done for years, and I’m still in awe of his ability. From a songwriting perspective, it’s Dave Grohl. I’m amazed at how he constantly churns out memorable tunes. I would say I’ve mostly been influenced by Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam when it comes to writing. Most of what they release always sticks in my head very quickly. I think that writing a memorable melody is a skill that can’t be taught. My mind is always blown by artists who can do it over and over again. The Beatles have also been a big influence.

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes you are keen to explore when you start off?

Not really. Lyrics are always the last thing I write. Sometimes it can take a while for me to decide what a song will be about. Inevitably, it always ends up being about a personal experience. Every song is about something that has happened to me at some point in my life. I’ve often heard the phrase “write what you know”, and so far I’ve been sticking to that.

Why do you write what you do?

I’ve loved rock music ever since I was 6 years old and my granddad bought me my first album, which was “Unmasked” by Kiss. Since then, many groups I listened to over the years turned out to be a short phase, but many 90’s groups have stuck with me permanently.

Live?

Well, I’m the only one in this project, so playing these songs live is not possible, unfortunately. I play gigs in other projects to get my live performance fix.

What plans do you have for the future?

I’ve already begun writing for my next recording. I’m hoping to be back in the studio next year.
