An Interview with Sondag
An Interview with Sondag
SCANDINAVIA
What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?
Hello everyone and thanks for this interview, I’m Marcello from Søndag, nice to meet you guys!
I must admit that I am very infatuated with Scandinavian languages, and therefore I took a cue from the Danish vocabulary for the band name: Søndag (Sunday).
The reference to the day of the week wants to create a parallel between the day of the week when the plug is disconnected from everyday life, and our music .. which (we hope) in its own way disconnects from the routine of the music we are used to listen.
Our main influences surely take inspiration from bands like: Alice in chains, Bring me the horizon, Deftones, Nine inch nails and many more.
How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?
Me and Riccardo usually record a demo track of new songs, as a starting point.
Then we rehearse the song together to finish it.
For the lyrics it really depends on our mood.. for instance, the riffs of “Trendsetter” (our last single before Titans) came to me when i was driving back home late at night after work.
In order to write them down, I had to pull over and “sing” them on my smartphone recorder.. otherwise (since I’ve got a really bad memory) they would have simply fade away after a few minutes.

FLOW
Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
This is both a difficult and easy question J: there’s no particular reason why we write our music, it just flows out of our minds.
How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?
There’s like a top 3 or 4 songs chart which is made by us upon the past tracks that we enjoy the most playing live which leads us to put them in the setlist everytime J
A part from those particular songs, we tend to create the setlist everytime by choosing the most recent songs that we have released.

NEW MUSIC
What plans do you have for the future?
Well, our biggest goal for the upcoming future is to come back playing live shows.. but we all have to wait for this pandemic to quiet a little bit because right now it’s really hard (and weird) to play live here in Europe.
Also, there will be new music very soon! We’re constantly working on something new.
We sincerely hope that our fanbase will expand considerably, thus allowing us to get noticed by big booking agencies in order to support bigger bands on tour and trigger a chain mechanism that makes us play more and more!
We never stop dreaming J
