RUSH
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your influences?
Two things I’m very sure of are that my name is Jay and that I like music, a lot. When I’m not making my own music, I’m either producing other people’s music, or repairing their instruments. I have a very broad selection of influences thanks to my parent’s listening habits. My mom’s music collection consisted almost exclusively of greatest hits CDs from every top artist from the 50s all the way to the 2000s. On the other hand, my dad was/is a classic rock lover. He introduced me to Rush, which is now my favourite band (second only to the Beatles), as well as many other groups/musicians in that same vein. The result of all those influences is a rock/folk approach to songwriting with a pop/indie spin. Definitely some psych in there too!
How do you approach songwriting?
Slowly and carefully, as to not scare the good ideas away.

COTTON FISH
What do you feel are your best songs?
Cotton Fish (A Dream) is currently the only song I have released. So I can say, with certainty, that it is the BEST song on my Spotify right now.
This first song is an instrumental, but my future releases will contain vocals. I think they’ll be even BETTER.
How has coronavirus impacted you?
I really miss playing live shows! But besides that, it hasn’t stopped me from doing my thing. Masks really aren’t such a big deal… so… WEAR THEM! Also, COVER YOUR NOSE. Also… DON’T TAKE YOUR MASK OFF TO SNEEZE! Yes, I actually saw this happen…
