What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?
The name came about back in 2017 when we first got together & Fake News was just becoming a bit of a buzzword. It came up & stuck. We think its fitting because there is so much bullshit fed to people as Fake News & they don’t even realise it. We did it initially as a bit of a joke & it seemed to stick so here we are today. Between all of us we have a wide range of influences from country to metal but the one common thread is punk rock. For all of us it really started with the 90’s punk rock sound. Back then punk was actually kind of popular & there were so many great bands coming out. It was a great time to grow up. We’re talking about bands like Pennywise, NOFX, Strung Out, Bad Religion, Millencolin, Pulley just to name a few. This is the sound that inspires us to create good new music along those same lines
How do you approach songwriting?
The direction of the lyrics is loosely based around the mood of the music. For instance if I hear a poppy upbeat song it generally makes me head towards a positive topic & the heavy fast pace songs are the generally the fuck you we won’t conform style. In saying that that I do love to flip it on its head sometimes & sing super uplifting lyrics to an aggressive ball tearing song. It’s a tough question though because sometimes the lyrics flow like a fine wine & other times they flow like a beer-soaked cigarette.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
See question 1. It’s the type of music we grew up on. It’s the type of music that we love. We want to keep this music alive & bring new followers into the punk rock scene. It saddens me to look around at the younger generations these days & see what type of music is popular. Its absolute rubbish. None of them have any idea who any of these bands are or have any appreciation for real music. If we can change that for even just a few people I would call that a win.
How do you decide what songs to perform live?
It does get hard to rule songs out of a set list sometimes. We will look at the show we’re playing, what other bands are playing, where it is, what the crowd is like & decide whether to go with a heavier set or a poppier set. Our songs don’t really change live from what they are recorded as. We don’t put any fancy tricks in there to make it something that we cant reproduce live. How you hear it on the album is how you should be hearing it live just with a truckload of energy added from the live show.

What plans do you have for the future?
Pretty much we are just going to keep doing what we are doing. We have just released 2 singles & a video clip & have the EP coming out in March. Beyond that we are going to get back in the studio & record our next single which should be out later this year. We are already working towards our next full length album we hope to release in 2024. An east coast tour of Australia is also on the cards in the near future. We will keep busy belting out great tunes & having a blast doing it that’s for sure.
