EVOLVE
What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?
I had decided to use my name for my womenswear brand, because I felt it allowed me to evolve along with my brand, never feeling tied down to stick to a specific style to fit the “brand name”. I started writing original songs for my fashion shows and fashion films, but never I put myself out there as a musical artist. When I took the plunge to pursue my music career, I kept debating whether I should use my name or come up with something, but I wanted to unite my fashion ad music not divide them further. In the end I stuck with my name, Emily Daccarett. I will continue to adapt and re-invent, myself, but the core will always be me.
I’m influenced by French-pop, 70s rock, 80s pop, and film. Artists who inspired me are Serge Gainsbourg, David Bowie, Vanessa Paradis, Carla Bruni, and Lana Del Rey. I love their form of story telling through their music and the intimacy they use to create certain atmospheres.
How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?
I start with a concept or idea that has inspired me and just write whatever comes to my head. I tend to write about love, self-recognition, love lost, heartbreak, hope, and fantasy. I like to wrap these themes together within an album or ep to tell a story with my music. Writing songs for me is like the diary or journal I could never keep. I take personal experiences or thoughts and expand on them.

DREAM
Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
I love music that let’s your mind dream away. It can take you to the deepest parts of your imagination and escape to it. There is a haunting melancholy aspect to my songs which I feel comes from my love of film, fashion, and music from the 70s.
How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?
It depends on the venue, I try to get the songs I feel fit best to create the right atmosphere for that night. Although for my last ep it was more synth based, the songs are written in a way where they can stand alone with just instrumentals. On a live setting we amp up the rock elements.

ALBUM
What plans do you have for the future?
I’m working on my new album, which we have been working on virtually. We have had to think outside of the box in terms of how we normally would work, my producer and I, but I feel the result will be really interesting.
