EMERRA
What inspired the name of the band and what are your influences?
Our band name was supposed to be short and most importantly – not already taken. It was a big search, but in the end our imaginary name “EMERRA“ was chosen in an online call that we all participated in. Our influences for this project reach from modern djenty metal, such as Architects and Northlane to progressive rock like for example Karnivool or Nothing More to softer and electronic influenced styles. We enjoy all different kinds of musical styles, so we like to think freely and write music without boundaries.
How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes you are keen to explore when you start off?
The most important aspect of our songwriting is, that we don’t force anything. We collect all our ideas and listen to them on multiple occasions over a few weeks. Those ideas that make us cringe or laugh after a while get put away, and those that catch our attention stay.
At the point where we have some, in our opinion, great demos we see if they would form a vibe for a possible EP.
We don’t try to think in albums that much, because we want to focus on fewer songs with individual energy and reason for being.

ENERGY
Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
I think we just love the energy of all these individual styles we try to put into our music! It’s all a matter of being unable to decide what you want to do in life. Say, if you went grocery shopping while being hungry. You won’t be able to just filter one kind of food into your bag. It will be plenty of things you’d love to enjoy right now.
It’s the same with our songs. We don’t want to shut out synthesizers. And we don’t want to close ourselves to metal, or orchestral. If it fits, and it suits the vibe of the song and our taste, there’s nothing wrong with it. You won’t be listening to the same song over and over again on our EP’s.
How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?
Right now, we are a rather new band and we only have few songs, so every song we have must be played live to reach the playtime. When we have our second EP out, or maybe the third, that will be a whole new task for us.
Me personally, I’d enjoy it more, if the energetic songs would be played live. I’m not that big on ballads at a live show, haha.

What plans do you have for the future?
We would love to reach people, that can identify with our music. It’s good to live in times, where with the help of the internet, you’re able to promote yourself and share your music with nearly every soul on this earth.
Also we are happy to announce, that we’re doing our second EP right now, and that it’s coming together very nice.
