What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?
Allon: I’ve always liked the name “Echo” for a band and “Seven” just sounded good lol. Influence wise I’m all over the place- Classical to grunge to hard rock to soft pop to grunge to piano ballads.
Marcus: Will leave the band name to Allon. My influences include everything from Classical to Death Metal and everything in between.
Justin: allon was the one who came up with the name and my influences thrash metal / death metal/ blues
Stefanie: Band name is Allon’s idea. My influences vary from folk to kpop, all sorts of things!
How do you approach songwriting?
Allon: songwriting for me is not a static event. I don’t have a special place to write or need conditions to be a certain way. The music dictates the emotions and the emotions dictate the subject.
Marcus: Allon and Stephanie handle the lyrics. As for riffs/songs, it is a collective effort. We try some riffs, upload to our workspace or introduce it at band practice. We then formulate the idea some more and hopefully end up with a kickass song.
Justin: as Marcus said
Stefanie: Songwriting is a strange thing for me. Often times, I’ll just play the song over and over and see what melodically comes out in hums, oohs and ahhs. Once I feel a bit comfortable with this structure, I start to add words. Thematically, I tend to focus on introspective lyrics. Lyrics that focus on inner strength.
Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
Allon: i want to write songs that resonate with people on a personal level – not just a superficial moment in time- like a party or a first kiss – which there’s nothing wrong with that I guess lol but also I know how songs that have had personal subject matters in them have spoken to me and helped me – so I hope In our songs that we can do the same.
Marcus: For me, it is the driving guitar tones and melodic phrases that are prevalent in “metal/hard rock”.
Justin: I love the sound of heavy metal and the feeling you get from playing especially live and loud
Stefanie: Honestly, I always had trouble writing about personal things in my previous work, but with _ECHOSEVEN I’m exploring a different side of myself. I hope that by writing lyrics that mean something to me, they can in turn find meaning for someone else.
How do you decide what to perform live?
Allon: That’s usually a band decision. When we first started we had to play every song because we needed to fill a set. Now since we have a stable lineup we are writing a lot more. So now we have options lol . Venue, set length, and tuning all play a part in our set list decisions.
Marcus: As Allon said. 🙂
justin: as allon said
Stefanie: As Allon said – it’s a collective decision. It depends on the situation, set length and down time between songs.
What plans do you have for the future?
Allon: we have our EP “X-Ray in Use” out Sept 30th. It’s actually for sale now on Bandcamp to purchase. So we’re going to be touring locally promoting that project. We have our next video and single off the EP “Blame” being released Oct 1. We’re also writing new material as we speak which is proving to be a lot of fun.
Marcus: Keep writing some bad-ass songs, experiment with sound textures and keep making videos for our singles.
Justin: just keep writing songs and making new videos and doing shows
Stefanie: Hopefully some more shows. We’re always thrilled to play. Our big focus right now tends to lean towards songwriting. Since our new EP dropped, we’re working on a lot of fresh material for future releases.
