An interview with Cynic Cult
What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?
It started off as the name of an early demo, but eventually it was decided to use it as the name for the band.
We are influenced by so many different types of music, musicians and composers but we will both always mention Tool and Nine inch nails as major influences.
How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?
Shay will start off with the music, and Tommy will then bring his lyrics into the fold, letting the music guide what it is he wants to say. Our coming EP’s theme is one of rebirth, something we can both relate to. We want to be honest and a lot of what we write will be from our own experiences and these are things we know others will easily relate to.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
It’s not really a choice to be honest, it is just very natural at this stage. Regardless of the kind of song I try to write, there is a familiarity there, and rather than try to change it up everytime I’m kind of happy to just go with it.
How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?
It will all depend on the venue and stage times really.

What plans do you have for the future?
Continue writing, recording and when the time is right, hit the road!
