An interview with Chasing Apparitions

TUMBLR

What inspired the name of the band and what are your influences?

The name Chasing Apparitions was actually something that I saw on a tumblr post. Something about “reverse album titles or something.” & I just kinda fell in love. To me the name means chasing something that is just out of reach.

Influences include Born of Osiris, Architects, Wage War, Bad Omens, Dayseeker, Thousand Below, Fit for a King, etc. among many others.

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

Songwriting is done in 2 parts. Typically Josey & Jacob will work together on the instrumentals & then when those are finalised Josey will sit down with Justin & discuss what direction they should go lyrically.
With this EP we really wanted to talk about a dark time & how we struggle to cope with our own mortality.

METAL

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

Metal was the music I first really got into as a kid. Beforehand I always thought music was cool, but I never really gave it a second thought. Once I heard “Stand Up & Scream” by Asking Alexandria, I fell in love with the genre & decided that I was going to learn how to play guitar. The rest is just a product of me finding other bands in the genre & getting immersed in the music.

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

Typically for live performances we look at what songs are doing the best as far as streaming numbers & sales. Playing songs with high energy is something that we also consider. No one comes to a metal concert to stand still.  Transposing them live is pretty easy, we just have an interlude track that plays between each song so there’s no awkward silence.
