An interview with Cathedral In Flame
An interview with Cathedral In Flame
What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?
As a goth rock band, we were inspired by gothic architecture and of course also by a beauty. And what is sadder, more monumental and more beautiful than the burning temple. So the Cathedral In Flames was a clear lovely and sad sound-painting choice.
How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?
All the music is composed by Gatsby, with Phil adding lyrics and vocal lines. Lot of our songs are about violence, sometimes sexual violence. on our last record Hang Me High & Bury Me Deep we touch the covid theme and lot of songs are about longing and loneliness.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
There is simply no other way. From the first moments we heard Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of The Nephilim or Joy Division we were hooked. Gothic rock is like heroin to us.
How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?
As there are so many layers and overdubs on the record, we have to simplify our songs to perform them live. But good song is a good song no matter how many amplifiers you have., And we wrote some fucking good songs to perform.

What plans do you have for the future?
Prepare the incredible good live show- Lights and stage visuals, sound effect and of course- lot of smoke. Gothic rock for the 21st century.
