An interview with Boneyard
An interview with Boneyard
What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?
The name came from the idea of being a cover band and doing the kinda of music found on Ozzy’s boneyard radio station. The classic rock and metal songs that charted back in the day in addition to the songs you know and love but were not so popular. These were the songs and artists that influenced us throughout the years and more so bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were the heavily influencers.
How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?
To be honest the songs for me come from a guitar riff or a melody that come from just noodling around and then morph into a song. I do like though when a song comes from nowhere and just writes it self, less thinking and more feeling. Like tapping into a universal rock well and letting it flow through you.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
Well I think a lot of it is feeling and what you know. I listened to rock and metal growing up well into my life to now and love everything about it. I think we write what we know or feel and that for me is the whole rock metal vibe thing.
How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?
Well of course we play most of our original stuff as we are trying to promote our music and yes some songs are stronger than others so we space things out along with some cover songs that we just love performing because of the amazing energy of the song. It’s easier to get a crowd motivated to get involved when the energy is high and some of our songs as well as certain cover songs do that well.

What plans do you have for the future?
Personally I would like to get some shows lined up but with Covid throwing a wrench into everything we will have to wait and see. Also we would like to record again as there are more songs in the works and I believe the band is growing musically. A follow up album should reflect that growth and progression, good things to come for sure.
