PAVING SLAB
What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?
The name of the band was something i had in my head for a couple of months before Sarunas and I formed the band, it wouldn’t go away so we stuck with it, the idea behind it, is that the power hungry greedy leaders of this world, treat the rest of us as slabs of meat or a paving slab they can just walk over. This band is a voice to tell these people, that we won’t take it anymore and that we’re willing to stand up to them, even if that means sacrificing ourselves. Everyone is the same and equal.
Our influences are so varied, from music, art, movies and even just walking around the streets of London. The main influence is to bring our kinda music (grindcore/deathmetal) to a wider audience without compromising what we do. People have a preconception of this genre, and we want to show them, what it’s really like.
How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?
The way we write is very organic, i might come in to the practice room with a drum beat, or there could be a guitar riff, and we just work on it all together in the room. The old school way of just jamming is also a way we do it. It’s not the way all bands should do it, but we find it works for us, and keeps the music fresh and aggressive, which is the way we like it.
Theme wise, we just want to write music we as music fans would listen to, so heavy aggressive music, with grooves and breakdowns. The whole idea of the band is to be extreme, so that’s the theme we want to keep pushing.

NO COMPROMISE
Why do you write the music that you do?
For a start, it’s music we all really love and believe in, the band really enjoys it, and that’s the most important thing, having fun playing our songs is key to this band, also the whole idea behind this band is to be extreme without compromise. Which we believe we are achieving.
How do you decide which songs to perform live, and how do you transpose them into a live setting?
This is a good question, as the band all have their favourite tunes they want to play, so we tend to come up with a set list, play it through and see if it works, if it doesn’t we tweak it here or there. The main thing for us, is that the songs flow and the show has no let up.
Once the set is decided, we just get on that stage and the chaos begins, we want our sound to be like a fucking freight train coming at you, with no let up. pure fucking power. Live is where this band is best, and it’s something to be see, it’s extreme, raw, fun and crazy, what more do you want……oh beer, well lots of that’s drunk as well.

WHAT WORKS
STRANGE ONE
What plans do you have for the future?
This is a strange one for us, as just a month or so ago, this year was looking unbelievable, we had some great UK shows as well as our first European shows booked, but because of the situation going on around the world, these shows have been cancelled or postponed, and rightly so, people’s safety is paramount.
We still have exciting things coming up, we really want to get in the studio and record the new songs, we are still confirmed for 3 festivals in Europe, plus more shows booked for the end of the year, plus we’re in talks for things for 2021. So fingers crossed all of this works out and Sacrificial Slabs will be playing on a stage near you very soon.
