BLOWN OUT

What inspired the formation of the band?

Friendship first and foremost! Me and Thomas have been friends since we met at school, and we had played in bands together before, we both felt a little blown out about our previous projects in the UK thrash scene a few years back so we wanted to form a band that just made music the way we wanted irrespective of what was expected! Sam came in a little while after that after a long stint in a Black sabbath tribute he was playing in between his session work

How much do your musical influences
shape your musical direction?

We certainly listen to a lot (of all types) of music and there is are metal bands we love, but I would say probably not as much as people may think, listening to our own gut feelings and serving the song have always been our compass, but perhaps our influences come through subconsciously more than we think!

TRIAL AND ERROR

What’s your approach to song writing like and why?

On a general level I would say we listen to our gut feeling, and paramount is to serve the song and not our egos! Usually the music comes first then the lyrics, and then we return to tweak the structure if its needed, mostly its a game of trying to bring to life the soundtrack in our heads but there’s a mixture of jamming in there too sometimes!

I guess we prefer to write this way because for us we think we can go deeper into exploring what’s possible with the emotion of the song, even though it can be a lot more work!

How did you approach recording this new record?

Lots of trial and error! This record was the first from the new build of our project studio, and so there was a steep learning curve dialling in the process and gear choice, and the only way we found out what worked was finding out what didn’t first! For the first time I’d put a lot straight to track to test ideas out very quickly which is something I’ve not done before but it worked really well and really opened up the creative process by just getting them off my chest and letting them go, which really made a great work flow that didn’t feel like it was stagnating.

I CANT WAIT

What plans do you have for the future?

The remainder of this year is going to be spent promoting ‘From Insanity’s Ruin’ to lay down the bedrock of the touring we’ll be doing next year. Then new year begins with all the madness on the road again, with a few festivals over the summer thrown in to boot! I can’t wait!
