Australian metal legends Lord return with their new album Fallen Idols. And boy do they deliver.
“United (Welcome Back),” is a pounding metal symphony that shifts the tone and gets the blood pumping and the head moving. The riffs are galloping and the vocals are snarling. “Immortal,” another galloping thrasher that takes the time to shift the wind through the sails of time. It takes a bite here and there, before increasing the friction one step at a time. “Fallen Idols,” the title track is brutal, it executes itself really well. Taking the time to move throughout the world and the wind and ensuring that everything is set completely. “Wilder Than The Wind,” sneaks through the creaks and gaps within the world. A blustering riff and a soaring melody set the stage nicely. “Nod To The Old School,” is a fitting tribute to the thrashing madness of the past.
“Chaos Raining,” sets the time limit off on good measure. Slowly bringing about a fascinating web of interwoven melodies and complex changes to bring some seriously catchy metal to the fore. “The Edge Of The World,” takes a sharp turn here. It brings about a crunch there, and it allows for a snarling monster to grow into a calculated beast of war. “Counting Down The Hours,” slows things down mightily, allowing for a thoughtful interchange in melodies and lyrical exchanges. “Kill Or Be Killed,” a rager that dominates the skyline with a thrashing sensibility. “Master of Darkness,” is a fitting closer to the album of doom.
The album is out on 1st August via Dominus Records.
