Grimgotts - Dragons of the Ages - Front cover.jpg

Formed in 2015, initially as a sort of joke Harry Potter inspired band, Grimgotts underwent a transformation of sorts and changed direction to focusing on symphonic power metal, with seriousness. The result is their new album Dragons Of The Ages.

“War’s Come To Our Shores,” starts things off. Waves lap against the listener’s ears, as the keys come in with a fascinating little melody, the drums then pound into being and the listener begins wondering where this is going. The guitars kick in and the vocals lend themselves to the epic feeling of this song. “The Last Dragon Warriors,” moves quickly and with bite. Turning and twisting. Shifting and grooving with the best of them. It turns and sticks the finger up at convention. “Ancient Waters,” shifts and turns. The riffs are huge, and the melodies are beautifully executed. This sounds like a song that you might find on Pirates of the Caribbean. “War At Dawn,” takes the Running Wild approach. Bombastic melodies, a shifting tone and approach which slowly weaves its way into the listener’s very fabric. “The King Under The Sea,” takes a similar approach, shifting with bombastic melodies and twisting and turning before creating something fantastic.

“The Long Road,” changes pace slightly with an acoustic intro before moving into a galloping frenzy. It’s honestly quite fascinating listening to this song unfold. It moves with power and space, twisting and turning the listener’s ear with grace and might. “Turning The Tide,” brings about some seriously epic turns and movements here and there. Shifting with the wind and ensuring that the listener is hooked. “Take To The Sea,” moves with a galloping precision, executing its will with might and grace. “The Great Shadow,” is epic. The keys melodies make it seem like the sort of song that would get airtime on a Final Fantasy game just before fighting the evil boss. “Here Be Dragonlords,” is epic. A shifting pattern of design and melodies, intersecting with all sorts of might and interest. As the song progresses so to does the tapestry it is being weaved onto.

The album is out on 17th May by the band here. Be sure to get the album when it comes out!
