What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

There’s a hint of melancholy in our songs. We’re aware of the specific beauty in autumn leaves. We juxtapose Melon, the sweet happy summer fruit, and Kali, a dark

Hindu goddess of transformation, destruction and transcendent energy. The contrast makes it complete.

There are too many influences to mention… Stevie Wonder, Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, the jazz and Motown greats. Our playlists are filled with artists who share the same influences: Hiatus Kaiyote, Anderson Paak, Bilal, Thundercat, Yebba, The Internet and lots more.

How do you approach songwriting and why?

Most of the lyrics are taken from everyday life and meditations. As for the music, we like to stay off the beaten path, with chord changes that aren’t used frequently.

For this album some ideas were created individually, and then refined during our band camps. Others were created in short exploratory jams. It’s hard to say whether we actively search for music, or just ‘find’ it. We create it because we looked for it, and found it didn’t exist yet.

Live?

Before our live shows we do a bandcamp where we rehearse multiple days to make live arrangements of our songs. Our setlist is a selection of our songs, often

danceable, but also slow songs. Songs of the “888 Fears” album and the new “Lilac & Lime green”.

What plans do you have for the future?

We’d love to tour and play live around the world.
