What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?
We knew we wanted a band name with more than one word so it would be unique and easier to find us in the online world, so it was on a list of brainstormed names and it was the best of the bunch! It mirrors where we were when we formed the band, about getting up from our past failures and going forward. We’re influenced I guess from all our musical tastes, it would be hard to say that it was one band or two that inspired to make music in Past The Fall, but we love things like AIC, Sabbath, Opeth, Mastodon, Pantera, Megadeth, Soundgarden…
How do you approach songwriting and why?
Well we mainly work by trying to play the idea that’s in our hearts and heads first and rise to the challenge of making that happen on the instrument, rather than jamming out together in rehearsal. It usually starts with guitar, then drums, then bass, then vocals. But the whole process is quite open minded so it could have elements at any point including jammed elements. We usually have a few feelings ideas about the direction we want to pursue, but the music is paramount in fleshing out that detail, we don’t like to shoehorn ideas onto the music just for the sake of it. We try to let it find the way before we dive into the detail of its theme or specific wording.
I guess it’s very important to us to be real and true to how we feel. That way whatever the journey asks of us around bringing the music out there’s no regrets about the personal sacrifice to do that. Ultimately, we want to make something that’s a worthwhile contribution to the collective canon of heavy music, and that’s the only way we know how to do it.

How do you choose what to play live?
Well at the moment its pretty easy as we only have 1 Album! So we just play all the tracks for longer sets and drop 2 songs that are a little more progressive for the shorter sets. Its really important for us we deliver the same sound and layers that are on the album to the live show, that probably has an influence on how we record.

What plans do you have for the future?
Right now were recording new material, and have decided to follow a more unorthodox way of releasing the the tracks on the journey to the album- that way the fans get more cool stuff! Next show is Bloodstock Open Air so were pretty excited about that too.
