What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?
None can really remember who came up with the band name and what inspired it, but we think we thought of ourselves as makers of music, so we were a factory, producers of music! Our influences were the classic rock bands of the day – The Who, Genesis, Yes, Deep Purple etc., too many to list them all!
How do you approach songwriting?
Sometimes a tune or a word can pop into your head and start it off, or you could just be noodling on an instrument, and stumbling on something that sounds interesting. Usually the music comes first, and then the lyrics are inspired from it.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
I usually write the sort of music I like to listen to myself. If I’m asked to write something specific, I try to adapt my taste to it.
How do you decide what songs to perform live?
That’s a problem we’re dealing with right now with our band, Factory. We have gigs coming up next year and trying to organize a set list. We have more songs that we’d like to play that can fit into the allotted time! We’re hoping when we’re rehearsing we can weed some out! It’s easy for us to transpose our songs into the live setting, as we’ve always been a live band first and foremost. All our songs are written and arranged with the thought of them being played live. Even when we record, we play live, all playing together in the studio, with the minimum of overdubs, except vocals, and no click tracks.

What plans do you have for the future?
Our new album, Back In The Time Machine, is being released in February, so we’ll be doing promo for that. Then we’ll be getting ready for the live gigs.
