What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?
Hey there, thanks for having us. We were initially called ‘Dirt Bucket’ but changed the name to ‘Bevar Sea’. The pronunciation is basically bastard in our local language so there’s the influence although it’s spelt differently. We’re inspired by 60s/70s rock and 80s heavy metal and traditionally the likes of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Cathedral, RUSH, Spiritual Beggars, Budgie, Trouble, etc.
How do you approach songwriting?
So our frontman Ganesh Krishnaswamy usually puts concepts and ideas together for the lyrics, in fact our latest album ‘The Timeless Zone’ is a conceptual album. With the backdrop of the lyrics portraying a tryst with the consciousness of man, storying into travels and visions within the self, the music on this song and over the course of the album, pays homage to the glory years of the 70s and 80s hard rock and metal with the typical rifftastic stoner/doom sound we’ve embraced on the two albums prior to this.
When it comes to the music, Srikanth writes the riffs, and the rest of the band puts in their parts and we arrange it together. Of course we intertwine the mood of the lyrics with our riffs or vice versa.
Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
I guess we’re just drawn to it and when you put instruments in our hands that’s the sort of stuff we like noodling over. There’s intellect in the writing and it’s just fun to play for an audience and when putting our albums together.
How do you decide what to perform live?
We’ve got an average of 6 songs on each of our 3 albums. Happy to say that we can pick and choose any song from any of the albums for a live set. We’ve just launched ‘The Timeless Zone’ so now the majority of our setlist is from the album and we pick 2-3 from the initial 2 albums that the audience would like to hear and we would have fun playing.
What plans do you have for the future?
As already mentioned, album 3 is just out so our plans currently are to promote it in the best possible way. We’re going to sit down and leisurely write album 4 but before we release that we’re drafting a tour in Europe sometime around 2023.
