An interview with Keep Up
An interview with Keep Up
What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?
We are Keep Up. The band name is more than just a band name, we wanted to create a name that was easy to pronounce and unforgettable. The term ‘Keep up’ actually means, to move or progress at the same rate as someone or something else. This has become a way of life for us.
How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?
Song writing for us is not always about dope riffs and feel-good lyrics but usually a way of releasing tension and emotion from our own personal walks of life. The most common theme is that we typically start off with a catchy melody and work our way into shaping a song that feels good to play and listen to.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
Through our own individual experiences of growing up with music, we’ve draw backgrounds from gospel, hardcore and punk. We’ve landed on a genre that crosses over multiple flavors of music. The music that we play now is inspired by our high school teenage days, full of rebellion and angst. It’s not a phase mom.
We enjoy playing music that our listeners can digest, enjoy and repeat. This is what you will hear today when you listen to Keep Up.
How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?
A lot of what we do to prepare for a LIVE show is understand the demographic of fans that will be at the show. This also depends on who we may be sharing the stage with. With the mixed genre that we are, we often find our selves playing with many different types of artists; Metal, Singer-songwriter, Punk, Americana, etc. WE attempt to cater to the audience to give a word class performance that will ever be forgotten.

What plans do you have for the future?
We just dropped a new EP and now we are working on releasing content to go along with that. We have a couple music videos out now, but we plan on releasing a couple more before the end of the year. Please subscribe to our YouTube page to get notified when our next video releases. More music and content coming later this year and early next year!
