An Interview with Random Ties
An Interview with Random Ties
RANDOM TIES
What inspired the name of the band and what are your influences?
Hey everyone I am Youssef the frontman for Random Ties.
I was thinking about this new journey I embarked on moving to the US from Beirut & thought how randomly the band met yet we are tied together by creating music thus the name Random Ties
I didn’t know anyone when I first moved to the US from Beirut in late 2018, so I started going to open mics & meeting other musicians which is where I met KD who plays the drums thunderously bringing that heavy hitting power with amazing fills & breaks, Thew who’s on the second guitar, compliments my playing with his fills that are all over our EP & Steven originally from Nirvana’s hometown brought a grunginess to the album with some great baselines.
Our sound is heavily influenced by the 90’s grunge sound bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters their music shaped who we are as a generation honestly growing up listening to them it was so powerful.
How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?
There is so much going on around us good & bad & what better way to channel that energy into music.
Our next single “Thawra” which will be released on August 14 on all streaming platforms & our YouTube channel https://youtu.be/lk40kyOpIn4 is about the humanitarian crises in Lebanon & every other crisis you can possibly think of so this song is my way to support the people & hopefully shed some light at the end of that tunnel.

EXPRESSION
Why do you write the sort of music that you do?
Writing music is the best form of expression that hopefully turns into a connection with your listeners & we want them to feel empowered & something they can dance to
How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?
We usually write the set list right before we get on stage trying to get a feel for the crowd & since we don’t play covers, we try & play the songs that are most popular in the cities we go to.
Our set consists of 14 songs but we do have our go to set list and one of those songs is “Week 39” which you can listen on Spotify
